THIS SHOWS THAT GE. FONSEKA UNDERSTOOD THE NATURE OF THE LTTE, WHILE NEITHER THE TNA, NOT CHANDRIKA, AND CLEARLY NOT EVEN RAJAPAKSA UNDERSTOOD THE LTTE. The continuation of the LTTE was good for the Sinhalese extremists as the LTTE continued to send our children as cannon fodder into battle. A few more years of the LTTE, all the Tamil children, and all the people of the Vanni would have been annihilated.

A very good move by Rajapaksha which shows he never was a racist. At the start of the peace process every Sri Lankan had hope. But it all dashed when LTTE showed no commitment.

Arousing racial hatred is not a good thing. But that is what some people are doing now.

Though General Fonseka has gone from a hero to zero, the government is committed to look after the war heroes as never before. The writer is twisting the storey as if Fonseka did win the war single handedly. Though Fonseka was the head of SLA he never fought in the front lines. There were several brave commanders on the front lines including the present Army Commander should get that credit. If not for the leadership and commitment of the government Fonseka would have been zero even before. After inviting an officer at the verge of retirement to head the Army, who is a US green card holder, and given what ever assistance to do his job, Fonseka seem to have forgotten his roots. The government has given Fonseka more glory than he deserve when you look back his conduct at the war. The very fact that he kept LTTE connected cook in his mess is questionable of his judgment and integrity.
