(November 24, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The JVP has decided to support General Sarath Fonseka as a common candidate at the Presidential election whichever party he contests from .
"The Party and the symbol under which the General will contest has not been decided yet but it will not be the UNP," JVP Parliamentary group leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said. He added that Gen. Fonseka is the best candidate to defeat President Rajapaksa.
“Gen. Fonseka is in agreement with our policies and hence we will back his candidature”, Mr. Dissanayake told reporters today.
He added that Gen.Fonseka has agreed to bring constitutional amendments within six months after he is elected to abolish the executive presidency. -Sri Lanka Guardian
