Call for sacking Hudson for misuse of language

An Open Letter to Mr Hudson Samarasinghe, the Chairman of SLBC

By Vipula Gunawardena

(December 24, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Language spoken at home should not be used when addressing people through a national broadcasting service.

I am a regular listener of the “Ratama Katha Karai” program of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC). This program is presented by the Chairman of SLBC itself, Mr Hudson Samarasinghe. During week-ends, this program is aired over 2-hours period in all three major services, Sinhala National Service, Sinhala Commercial Service and City FM.

In this series of programs, the language being used by Mr Hudson Samarasinghe to address people of Sri Lanka is totally indecent. He generally uses indecent words such as Aroo, Moo, Yakaa, Booruwa, Kaalakanniya, Perethaya, Haraka etc to address the people of Sri Lanka , especially those having opposition political views. His language is inappropriate for a civilized society. Our children, who will be the next generation to lead Sri Lanka , should be prevented listening the radio programs conducted by Mr Hudson Samarasinghe.

Being the leading broadcasting institution in Sri Lanka , staff of SLBC, should use a decent language to address people of Sri Lanka , no matter what is their political affiliations are. I have listened to many other programs presented by other staff members of SLBC, and none of them use such an inappropriate language when addressing people of Sri Lanka . However, it is highly regretted that the head of the SLBC, the Chairman, Mr Hudson Samarasinghe is the only staff member of SLBC using such inappropriate words when addressing people of Sri Lanka . He is destroying the credibility of the SLBC. It looks like, he is prepared to lick anything of the politicians for survival in this prestigious post, the Chairman of the SLBC.

Mr Husdon Samarasinghe is hereby kindly requested not to use the language he uses at his home to address his wife, children and grand-children when addressing the public. Instead, he should use a decent language.

The services of Mr Hudson Samarasinghe, Chairmen of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, should be terminated with immediate effect.
