Government Minister’s henchmen killed Buddhist monk

Police curfew in Gampola, Nawalapitiya

(January 27, Gampola, Sri Lanka Guardian) The secretary of Mr. Mahindananda Aluthagamage a powerful minister of the government and his gang of thugs have broken into Sri Bodhirajaaramaya Pirivena at Thambiligala at Nawalapitiya and shot dead Ven. Matara Wimalananda Thero say reports. One of the thugs who had come for the assassination too has died in an explosion at the site.

The Secretary of the Minister and the thugs had arrived at the temple in a Montero jeep, a double cab and another vehicle and aimed a barrage of gunfire. A nearby house has been damaged and another Bhikku in the temple has been injured due to the gunfire.

It is also reported that the vehicle driven by minister’s secretary has toppled over while trying to get away.

Meanwhile, Police curfew has been imposed in Gampola and Nawalapitiya in the Kandy district, police said.
