JHU/National Bhikku Federation deny hand in Sirasa Attack

(March 26, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) and National Sangha Council denied any hand in the attack on SirasaTV.

“We have received information to the effect that a certain state institution was also connected with bringing down a certain person to the country.

“No matter who takes the lead in this regard, be it a state institute or even a ministry, the first thing that needs to be considered is this individual's conduct.

“We condemn the fact that there is an attempt to put the attack carried out by a certain group against Sirasa head office by basing it on the Akon incident, on us. We reject this. There has not been a single Buddhist monk involved in this.

“Furthermore, no one from the National Bhikku Federation was involved either. Those who arrived at the location have been identified. Based on what I know, there are pradeshiya sabha members too.

“Therefore, the National Bhikku Federation was not there,” according to the Venerable Wimalasara Thera of National Sangha Council.

Meanwhile, JHU who condemned the attack also denied any hand in it.

“The Jathika Hela Urumaya does not endorse the attack that was carried out on the head office of the Sirasa Media Network.

“The opinion of the Jathika Hela Urumaya is that government ministries should engage in their promotional activities in a more responsible manner,” said Nishantha Warnasinghe, JHU propaganda secretary.
