Fonseka can’t go to Nairobi

(July 04, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Democratic Party, Democratic National Alliance leader and Colombo district parliamentarian Sarath Fonseka will not be able to attend the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference in Nairobi, as his name was struck off from the final list.

The Sri Lanka branch of the CPA, of which Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa is the chairman, deleted Retd. Gen. Fonseka’s name from the list of Sri Lankan MPs provided by the oppostion to visit Nairobi.Thus he will not be part of the five-member Sri Lankan delegation, comprising three government MPs and two opposition MPs, to the conference in the Kenyan capital in September.

Earlier Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the former Army commander would have to seek legal clearance before leaving for the CPA conference as he was a suspect in a case and had not been granted bail.
