Wimal Weerawansa tendered his resignation as the government was being inconvenienced by his decision to protest against the UN, party spokesman and former MP Jayantha Samaraweera said.
He said that the President had not accepted the resignation.
However other sources said that if a cabinet minister declares his intention to resign he would be considered to have resigned and needs to be sworn in again to be included in the cabinet.
