Douglas and Premachandran must publicly declare they are not involved in rogue land transfers

(September 07, Jaffna, Sri Lanka Guardian) Considerable concerns have been expressed by visiting expatriate Tamils that two prominent Tamil politicians are involved in the illegal land transfer scam.

Lands belonging to the Tamils who have left the country long time ago and unclaimed since the defeat of the LTTE are being transferred illegally in bogus names and then disposed off for massive sums.

The scandal is said to involve the government minister and the paramilitary leader Douglas Devananda and the Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran.

According to information, the scam has slowed down following some private uproar in Jaffna, and subtle revelation in the media but it is said to continue in a small scale still.

Whilst Miniter Devanada is involved in many illegal trading activities with the involvement of his paramilitary powerbase which is being tolerated by the government, Premachandran who espouses the Tamils rights so vociferously is said to be indulging in the activities against his own people.

Suresh Premachandran also runs a luxury private coach hire service in Tamil Nadu, India said to be from funds obtained through clandestine means.

The concerns of some of the visiting expatriates are so worrying that unless both these men make public statements about the accusation to absolve their involvement some concerned Tamils are trying to search and reveal the facts about the illegal transfers.
