Tamil prisoners appeal to the LLRC

(October 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian)Tamil prisoners jailed in the GHJ section of the New Magazine Prison has appealed to the Lesson Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) to visit them in the prison and listen to their pains and sufferings and make its submission to the President.

In the exclusive news published in the independent Tamil news website neruppu.com, the prisoners have pleaded in their letter that:

‘We are political prisoners since 1993. We are encountering untold pains and sufferings.

‘Aren’t we citizens of this country?

‘We are imprisoned since our young age. We are surviving because we want to live. We are in the prison from five to seventeen years. Can’t we live with our dear ones? We are unable to find the answers for many questions.

‘You are going all around the country and making inquiries to find answers for the problems.

‘We have suffered in all the fronts. To whom else can we tell our difficulties? You must listen to us as well.

‘Please submit our plight to the President. Many people promised, we will be released and we have been let down. We are now appealing to you in desperation.

‘There are no words to explain ours or our family member’s plights. They are living with the hope that we will be released one day and that we can live with them. Some of them even have died now.

‘The country has advanced but the plight of the Tamil political prisoners has not changed.

‘Come forward and listen to us and help us released from the prison. We appeal that all the Commission members must meet us in the prison.

‘We await with the hope that you will visit us’ Tell a Friend
