CID to investigate the brawl at the Walikada prison

(November 07, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Police Media spokesperson SP Prishantha Jayakody states that IGP has appointed a special investigations team to probe the incident which occurred this morning at the walikada prison. Meanwhile the prisons department has also commenced an investigation. Prisons commissioner, Major General V R De Silva stated that the investigation will be headed by Prisons commissioner Keneth Fernando. Director of the Colombo National Hospital Dr.Hector Weerasinghe stated that 48 police officers are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital due to the brawl that occurred at the walikada prison.

Meanwhile the deputy minister of Rehabilitation and prisons Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa with regard to the incident. Deputy Minister speaking to the media further stated that this incident gives a clear signal that there needs to be a change within prisons.

Meanwhile nearly 300 police officers carried out a search operation at the Anuradapura prison and several other prisons in the country. During the search operation 14 mobile phones, charges, batteries, sim cards and Marijuana packets were recovered.
