The 6th National Congress of the JVP held with dignity - Foreign delegates present greetings

(February 10, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian)The first session of the 6th National Congress of the JVP was concluded at about 1.40 p.m. today (10th). Representatives from party branches throughout the country participated.

Greetings to the Congress was presented by delegates representing Communist and Workers parties from several countries and committees of the JVP in several countreis.

Among the delegates who were present to extend fraternal greetings were Comrade Nirsia Castro Guevara, Ambassadress for the Republic of Cuba in Sri Lanka, Comrade Han Tao of Communist Party of China, Comrade Georgios Sophokleous , Member of Central Committee of the Progressive Workers Party (AKEL) in Cyprus, Comrade Ann Margerethe Livh, Chairperson, International Forum of Left Party of Sweden, Comrade G. Devarajan, Secretary - International Department of All India Forawrd Block in India and Agostino Christiana from Organization of Internationalist Communists in Italy. Greetings also had been sent by several other parties.

Ms. Anoma Fonseka representing the Leader of DNA Gen. Sarath Fonseka, Parliamentarians Arjuna Ranatunga and Tiran Alles, Artistes Suwineetha Weerasinghe, Kingsley Lose, Chandrasoma Binduhewa, Prof. Kumar David, Senior Lecturer of Aesthetic University Chandraguptha Thenuwara were present.

Comrade Vijithe Herath welcomed the guests, delegates and representatives of party committees. Comrade Tilvin Silva explained the objectives of the Congress. Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe thanked all those who were present and presented greetings.

The second session of the Congress will commence at 2.00 p.m. A new Political Bureau and a Central Committee will be elected and the programme of the JVP for the future would be discussed and adopted at this session.
