Pathmanathan assumes duty as High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in London

(February 10, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Government of Sri Lanka has appointed the Minister Councillor at the Chennai mission in India K. Pathmanathan as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

K Pathmanathan assumed duty at the High Commission a week ago without any media glare or public statement from the External Affairs Ministry.

K Pathmanathan joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1996 and said to be appointed in desperation following Dr Palitha Kohana not taking on the appointment.

According to our External Affairs Ministry source K Pathmanathan was appointed to overcome any diplomatic issues and protests over the initial decision to appoint an air force official and to use his status as a Tamil to win over the hearts and minds of the Tamil in the UK.

The source also confirmed that the government has appealed to the extremist Sinhala associations linked to High Commission to fully co-operate with the High Commissioner and deal with any issues directly with the External Affairs Ministry directly.
