Is President the Competent Authority On Songs ?

Are we all Not Mad?

by a song writer

(May 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) In a public speech President Rajapakse criticized the Song “Me Rate Minussu Thanikara Kelinne Pissisu”, everybody in the country is mad. President, who could not see the satire and the humour in this song, said that this means, that the things happening in the country are bad. In the past, we used to sing, Loke Uthum Rata Lankawai”,” the best country in the world is Sri Lanka”, he said.

President failed to appreciate that more people in the country travel outside now and anya way see the television. They know more about the other countries. They are not stupid to think, that the best country in the world is Sri Lanka.

However, the more important issue is not that. The real issue as to whether it is the president that decides which songs the singers must sing and people must listen to. The press in the country is now silenced. Will the singers also be silenced?

If President is going to do that, it means he is also mad.

The artists that good humouredly get people to have a laugh at themselves, contribute to the good humour in the country and to the sanity of the people. People who cannot have a good laugh at themselves ,are not only stupid but also are dangerous.

Children do not become bad by listening to satires on their country. They may become bad people by seeing the bad things that their leaders do.
