Ranil wants govt to act fast to disprove 'war crime' allegations

(June 19, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has cautioned the government that the public could face the repercussions if the country fails to disprove the allegations of ‘War crimes’.

Wickremesinghe speaking in Ehliyagoda on Saturday said that some said various foreign countries can start taking action and even students going for overseas education could be affected and the number of foreign tourist coming to the country could drop.

He said that the government should act now and take action prevent discredit on war heroes.

He said that when the allegations were leveled by the Channel 4 documentary Sri Lanka should have proved that they were false.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said that already action has filed in a civil court in the US and if the trend continues our diplomats will be inconvenienced by such action.
