Thoughtless actions and fear of repercussions

BELIEF VS BELIEF

(September 23, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) The rampager in Sri Lanka, having intervened and stopped the sacrifice that devotees at Munneswaram wanted to perform seems to be in jitters fearing the effects on him from the dashing of coconuts by the angered devotees to invoke curse on those who obstructed the sacrifice. Supporters of the rampager are now launching 1500 Bodhi Poojas for his safety. Surely, it cannot be refuted that this is being done by the initiative of the fearing rampager himself. The questions are “Why do you act against the belief of another and seek protection in your belief”. And “Is it not that the fear in you has been caused by your thoughtless action done just to gain popularity”. This uncontrolled one, even by his masters, has also threatened to cut-off the hands of those who will slaughter animals. The Muslim Hajj Festival, when Muslims will sacrifice animals, is near. Will this rampager get involved or has he learnt his lesson from Muneswaram?

What one could learn from these incidents is that when you hurt the feeling or belief of another, or destroy anything revered by another there will be repercussions that will make you to suffer or at least your own guilty conscience will keep destroying you within yourself.
While on this a similar story comes to memory. This is of a former Minister in the JR Jayawardena Govt., an ardent Buddhist, who had ventured on a mission to erect Buddhist stupas in the vicinity of Dafter Jailani in Balangoda revered by Muslims. On his way to Balangoda on the appointed day the vehicle he was travelling had skidded and toppled. The Minister escaping with minor injuries had to abandon the mission. Following this the Minister had been undergoing several other problems too. Discussing with a Muslim associate, the Minister was told that his problems could be the consequence of his mission to Balangoda which has hurt the Saint. To find remedy the Muslim associate had taken the Minister to a Moulana, reputed for his mystic powers of healing, and sought his advice. The Moulana’s advice was that, as repentance, the Minister should every year send a Kettle (made of Brass) full of Milk to be offered at the Nagoor Dharga in South India. The Muslim associate of the Minister had made the yearly journey to make the offering on behalf of the Minister. Sometimes later the Minister was seen delivering Lectures espousing and extolling the virtues of Islam and Muslim Saints which stunned even Muslim Scholars by the knowledge that he expressed on Islam. He has had his brains and acted wisely.

The other incident spoken of is that during the Mawanella incidents in 2001 three or four Sinhala thugs have attacked the Hingula Mosque which has a Shrine. Severe damage was caused to the Mosque. It is said that after a short time one of the thugs died on the spot being bitten by a snake when going past the Mosque and another had succumbed to injuries caused when knocked-down by a lorry in close proximity. The death of the third had occurred suddenly, the cause of which has not been diagnosed.

What one could learn from these incidents is that when you hurt the feeling or belief of another, or destroy anything revered by another there will be repercussions that will make you to suffer or at least your own guilty conscience will keep destroying you within yourself.

LET YOUR BELIEF BE WITH YOU AND LEAVE THAT OF THE OTHERS TO THEM
