EDUCATION: An investigation on fake PhDs

| by Samantha S. Konara

(October 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) We have received a numerous complains about following people who claim that they have PhD s and when our investigative journalists questioned the authenticity of their qualifications these people were unable to provide sufficient details. They were asked the name of the University that they had received the PhD ,date , University contact details and the name of the supervisor etc but we were not convinced by their answers. These people treat patients in their respective clinics and we have a sufficient doubt that there is a fraud associated and these people are misleading the public. Its our duty to enlighten the public about such events. But we would like to give one final chance to them before we go for a comprehensive media coverage. If these people have genuine qualifications they can send the details to us before 10 th of December 2011.

1) H R S Keerthisinghe - Claims that he has a PhD. Used to work as a guest lecture at the Kothalawala Defence Academy and recently his services were terminated after an investigation. When he was contacted by one of our journalists he was unable to provide the name of the University that he had received his PhD , and name of the supervisor. He treats patients at a center in Wattala.

2) Chandradasa Madampe- Claims that he has a PhD and treats psychiatric patients in a private center in Rathmalana. When our investigators asked about his qualifications Mr Madampe was unable to provide any satisfactory answer. He used to advertise himself as the guest psychologist to the Sri lanka Air force. When we contacted the Sri lanka Air Force we were told that SLAF has not recruited such a person as a guest psychologist.

3) Mass R Usef - Indicates that he has a PhD but when contacted by one of our investigators he was unable to provide sufficient details. Proclaims that he has a PhD in Acupuncture. Late Dr Anton Jayasuriya unethically sold PhD s to some people and irony is that these people are now treating patients with these fake and ingenuine qualifications violating the Sri Lanka Medical Council Act. We would like to know about the details of Mr Mass R Usef 's PhD. If his qualifications are real we will let our readers know about it.

For all these three people we like to give another chance. If your qualifications are genuine please provide the name of the University that you have received your PhD , date , University contact details and the name of the supervisor to this email fightingagainstcurruption@gmail.com If your qualifications are authentic we will let the public know about it.
