Mr. Sivathasan, Former Member of Parliament Passes Away

(November 14, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Mr. Sivathasan Sangarapillai Jaffna District former Member of Parliament, and former Chairman of Palmyrah Development Board, passed away in Jaffna on the 12th of November, 2011 (Today)

Mr. Sivathasan was a Senior Member of Eelam People’s Democratic Party and was born on the 21st of August, 1934. At the time of his death he was 77 years of age.

He was a senior member of Sri Lanka Communist Party, and in the year 1964 he with Mr. Shanmnugathasan broke away from this party and was in the forefront in forming, Sri Lanka Communist Party(Chinese wing). Later he was a strong member of the EPRLF Origination. In the 1987 after Indo-Lanka pact, he became a Provincial Council Member in the North-East Provincial Council, After that he joined the EPDP and continued to be a member there until his death. He was a Member of Parliament twice, representing Jaffna district. During the period he held the Chairmanship of Palmyrah Development Board, he was seriously injured due to a bomb attack by the Tigers and received treatment for sometime at the Intensive Care Unit of Colombo National Hospital. During the period the LTTE held sway in the North and East, he was actively engaged in a ideological struggle against the Tiger fascists. Mr. Sivathasan in his entire life period worked with commitment for National Unity and racial harmony in our Country.

Mr. Douglas Devananda, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development, stated that the details concerning the cremation of the remains of Late Mr. Sivathasan would be notified later.
