TGTE Condemns Intimidation in Geneva
| A Statement issued by the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam
( March 21, 2012, Geneva, Sri Lanka Guardian) Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) today condemned the activities of pro-Sri Lanka groups to intimidate and disrupt a side event at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The side event was organized by several NGOs to highlight mass killing of Tamils and continuing abductions, executions and sexual abuse.
TGTE’s Deputy Minister for the Investigation of War Crimes Ms. Vasugi Thangarajah was also attending this meeting. There were about fifty participants in the room discussing Sri Lankan Government’s abuses and suddenly about fifteen Sri Lankan government supporters rushed into the room shouting slogans and screaming at the speakers and participants” said Vasuki. “Everyone was terrified.”
UN Security personnel rushed to the scene and brought the unruly behavior of the pro-Sri Lankan government groups under control. A US sponsored Resolution on Sri Lanka is to be voted on Thursday and the Sri Lankan Government is increasingly becoming nervous about the outcome and is organizing large rallies in the island of Sri Lanka against this Resolution and sent numerous people to Geneva to aggressively counter the Resolution.
“Sri Lankan Government is used to intimidate and abuse Tamils in the island and now they even come to the United Nations to use the same tactics they use in Sri Lanka”, said Visuvanathan Rudrakumaran, Prime Minister of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE). “Sri Lankan Government should be aware that no such behavior is tolerated in the United Nations.”
According to a UN Panel Report over 40,000 civilians were killed in five months in 2009. Due to government restriction of food and medicine several died of starvation and several injured were bled to death. Women were sexually assaulted and executed. UK’s Channel 4 produced two documentaries, systematically documenting these killings.
A Satatement issued by the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) is a democratically elected government of Tamils from the island of Sri Lanka. It held international supervised elections in twelve countries to elect Members of Parliament (MPs). These MPs ratified a Constitution, elected a Prime Minister, ten member Cabinet and a Speaker.
