Baloch intellectual shot dead in Quetta, students went on strike

( June 19, 2012, Balochistan, Sri Lanka Guardian) Unidentified assailants targeted killed Nazir Marri, an educationists in the provincial capital city of Balochistan..

Nazir Ahmed Marri, a senior teacher at Killi ShaiKhan High School, was gunned down by men riding a motorcycle on Arbab Karam Khan Road in Quetta. The gunmen escaped after the attack.

Sources said the rescue teams rushed to the spot and shifted Marri’s body to Civil Hospital.

It is worth mentioning that teacher Nazir Marri was abducted by Pakistani security agencies several times in past years and he was subjected to brutal torture.

Following the incident, hundreds of students came out on the streets and staged protest against the killing of their teacher. The protestors blocked Siryab Road and broke the glasses of police mobile.

Meanwhile, the Government Teachers' Association Balochistan has also announced three-day mourning. Police cordoned off the area and stared a search operation. It is pertinent to mention that Baloch teachers, journalists and intellectual are in target from the last three years. Local people blame Stae machinery and intelligence agencies for such gruesome actions.
