Former President CBK said No

( November 14, 2014, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga ( CBK) has denied the request to stand in for the presidential election made by the United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, reports UNP headquarters 'Sirikotha' sources.

The sources further report that she has suggested the name of a Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) bigwig as the 'common candidate’.

Meanwhile, responding to a question raised by a journalist at the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) media briefing yesterday (Nov 13) held at SLFP headquarters, whether there is any truth behind the talks which claim that he is to stand in for the election as the common candidate, the Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena stated that those are mere rumors.
