Sri Lanka: Speaker under Attack by Sirisena-Rajapaksa Goons in the House

(November 15, 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Speaker of the Parliament Karu Jayasuriya came under attack during the session of the Parliament today morning. Members from the Rajapaksa and Sirisena faction including Dilum Amunugama, Annada Aluthgamage, Thilanga Sumathipala, Johnston Fernando, and many others came to the Speaker and launched the attack.

However, members from the other political parties were surrounding the Speaker along with the officials of the house to prevent the violence.

Finally, the Speaker managed to walk out of the house and the house will be suspended till tomorrow afternoon November 16, 2018.

Live broadcast of the session also temporary went off.

"All started after we presented a motion of no confidence on the statement of the ‘PM’ Mahinda Rajapaksa. Speaker asked for vote by name," Harsha de Silva MP has noted.
