A large consignment of fuel and medicine bound for LTTE

During a search operation conducted on information received, naval troops detected a large consignment of fuel and medicine bound for LTTE at Puthukudirippu in Pesalai, Mannar, on the 23rd September 2007.

The discovery was made around 11.00 pm at night. The apprehended items were hidden in a scrub jungle to be smuggled in to un-cleared areas. There were 5040 litres of diesel in 24 barrels, each barrel containing 210 litres, 275 kilograms of plaster of paris in 11 bags, each bag containing 25 kilograms and a large quantity of medicine.

LTTE suffer an acute shortage of fuel for their supplies have been cut off by the security forces personnel who keep constant vigil over the LTTTE movements. They have been forced to shift their ‘hospitals’ from place to place since the LTTE cadres are being made to run for their lives due to the successful military operations conducted by the government forces to eliminate the tiger terror.

It is believed that the large quantity of medicine apprehended was intended for the injured LTTE cadres while the plaster of paris was to be used in making casts for those with fractured limbs.
