JVP like a Chameleon - UNP

(December, 17, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The JVP whose popularity has ever been plummeting after the last elections for its self seeking opportunistic policies letting down the voters to whom it made promises fearing that it may have to face a general election following the Rajapakse Government losing at the budget voting, made a dramatic turnaround to abstain from voting on the 14th Dec. at the last minute, according to a latest statement released by a main opposition party in Sri Lanka, the United National Party.

“This chameleon like change of the JVP only confirmed further its double dealing and double tongued nature which have made it the most unpopular political party noted for betraying the downtrodden classes for whom it was so vociferous before elections,” the statement added.

“Realising that its seats would be reduced if there is an election struck another diabolic deal with the Rajapakse Govt. which too is equally guilty for its selfish concern only about its continuance in power even trampling and crushing the masses.”

Although the bonafides of the two parties are highly questionable given the overriding selfish political ‘games ‘ they have played for the two years duping the people, abrogation of the CFA and pruning down Cabinet to 30 Ministers are the terms and conditions , according to highly placed sources, the statement said.

“To some sources, this deal is not any in the interests of the country, but another of those for JVP to save its face and for the Govt. to save its defeat at the Budget reading.”
