No alternative party to JVP, Somawansa

(May 27, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe today hit out at the newly formed National Freedom Front (NFF) declaring that no alternative party could be formed to replace the JVP. (Sri Lanka Guardian Image:Suathadasa Stadium)

Speaking at party’s 5th National Convention held at the Suathadasa Stadium he said “there may be alternative parties to the UPFA or the UNP, but not for the JVP”.

“The breakaway group of the JVP will last only a few months. That is a temporary measure. After a few months the bunch monkeys will end up with (President) Mahinda (Rajapaksa)”, he said.

“The new party will not last long. They should not be allowed to last long. They should not be allowed to raise their head”.

Hence the JVP today threatened to resort to trade union action involving both the state and private sector to obtain a wage hike in the face of the escalating cost of living, starting next week.

JVP MP K.D.Lal Kantha made the threat at the Party’s Fifth Convention which began this morning at the Sugathdasa Stadium in Colombo.

MP Lal Kantha said that they would gather workers from both the sectors and begin the actions starting from the first week of June as the cost of living is becoming unbearable.

Meanwhile, the Party is set to appoint new office bearers at today’s convention
