(June 08, Chilaw, Sri Lanka Guardian) A protest campaign held by the JVP at Arachchikattuwa in Chilaw District against the escalating prices of essential commodities was attacked by a gang of thugs lead by Sanath Nishanthe, member of the government party of North western Provincial Council, in this morning.According to the JVP sources, North Central Provincial Councilor from the party Sithara Nonis organized the demonstration to urge the government to bring down the high cost of commodities.
Soon after a large number of protestors began their agitation, a group led by the ruling party’s NCP councilor Sanath Nishantha and member of the Arachchikattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Jagath Samantha stormed the scene and started assaulting the participants.Around 10 JVP activists, including Mr. Nonis, were seriously injured in the incident and admitted to the Chilaw Hospital.

Meanwhile the JVP last week registered its opposition to the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Sri Lanka."This agreement would achieve nothing for us Sri Lankans but only create a market place for Indian entrepreneurs. We know that talks are on to hurry up finalizing the agreement and a background to facilitate Indian businessmen is takeing shape.
Already 1000 acres of land in Trincomalee district had been allocated to build two power plants to serve Indians. Entering into this agreement will allow India to gobble up our economy in a few years," JVP MP Wasantha Samarasinghe told the Medias based in Colombo.
The CEPA is nothing but a trap and the JVP demands that the Government does not fall for it, otherwise the country would become an economic colony of India, he said.- Sri Lanka Guardian

Now moderate public can assessed JVP by there actions weather they are real patriots ,who wants to save our country from terrorism which was destroyed us throughout last 30 years.
Can they give a government a helping hand at least last stages of this against terror.
