"The Govt. is playing with the life and blood of the people"

(September 19, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, UNP M.P. told the media yesterday (18 Sep), that the Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva who should take the initiative in exposing the culprits in the recent exposure of Blood Bank irregularities and fraud to bring the culprits to book is, instead trying to sweep this massive grave racket in his Ministry under the rug.

It is a pity that in Sri Lanka, though the Govt. is obese with more than the required number of Ministers, and Health Minister is seemingly robust, the Health Ministry itself is most unhealthy.

Even though the whole country knows the seriousness of the use of expired blood transfusion kits risking the lives of the people and the soldiers who most need them, the Minister himself seems not to know his responsibility despite the fact that he is the chairman of the WHO, he exhorted.

It is significant to note that all the exposures on this scandal were made by the Media and himself ( a Medical Doctor himself) while the Ministry itself was sleeping on this issue.
