Police Registration!

- Thinakkural Editorial

(September 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Police HQ has sent out a directive that all those who have arrived in Colombo from the north during the last 5 years and are staying here temporarily or permanently must register themselves at the nearest police station on 21st September.

It is stipulated that all persons who come to register themselves at the police station must be in possession of certain documents such as National Identity Card, passport, Birth certificate, a letter from the Grama Sevaka etc.

It has not been made clear whether each member of the family must be present or whether only the head of the family has to be present.

Earlier when the members of the public registered at police stations, they were issued with a certified document. But, this time, they will not be provided with any document, it is learnt.

This has caused a fear in the minds of the people as to whether they could at any time be evacuated from Colombo.
