'Karunanidhi enacted farcial drama'

(October 29, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa on Tuesday accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi of enacting a farcial drama on Sri Lankan Tamils issue by deciding not pressing resignations of DMK MPs and conveniently forgetting about the thousands of people affected by military offensive in the island.

'On day one when it was reported that Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi had handed over her resignation letter to her father and not to the Rajya Sabha Chairman, I had predicted this was how things would shape out. Even Karunanidhi, with all his ingenuinity and theatre experience, could not come up with a better script! she said in a statement.

Those in power at the Centre were also supporting actors in Karunanidhi's play, she charged. Referring to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee's remarks after his meeting with Karunanidhi here on Sunday that India cannot bring about a ceasefire in Sri Lanka as it would amount to interfering in internal affairs of that nation, she said in a sarcastic comment that Karunanidhi was apparently unaware till then of this.

Convinced that nothing more could be done for the Tamils in Sri Lanka, he decided not to hand in resignation letters of all his party MPs. Thereby, he averted a crisis for the Centre! she said, adding that in return Congress would continue support to Karunanidhi's minority government.
Charging Karunanidhi with taking the nation for a ride, she said he "conveniently forgot" all about the thousands of Tamils "rendered homeless or been displaced in Sri Lanka and constant problems being encountered by fishermen from South Tamil Nadu Coast near Katchatheevu.

He even forgot about the thousands of school children who were forced" to form a human chain in pouring rain, the AIADMK leader accused.

Karunanidhi forgot about prominent film personalities who stuck their necks out to do his bidding, only to find themselves imprisoned for publicly espousing the cause of banned LTTE. Jayalalithaa charged, adding that unless the people taught him a lesson he would continue to enact many more such farcial dramas.

She asked the people of the state to send telegrams to Karunanidhi asking him to quit. He should know what the people think.
