( April 15, 2012, Colombo/Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) According to news revealed by the well known orator Leoni to the Tamil magazine Nakkeeran of 11-13 April 2012, President Mahinda Rajapakse has spent large sums of money to give Annathanams (food donations) in several Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu on the auspicious Panguni Utharam for the Hindus on 4th April 2012.

Leoni and his wife had gone on this special religious day to the infamous Malaikerni Murugal Temple in Thindukal for worshiping. When he was about to leave after worshipping, he was approached by volunteers who requested him to participate in the ‘special Annathanam’ (food offering to devotees). They pressurised him to join for the Annathanam and he too went to the dining area where he found large crowd having the meal.

Leoni curiously asked a volunteer who is the sponsor of this special Annathanam. They said, it on behalf of Rajapakse, his well-wisher one Colombo Subramaniam is giving this offering. This made Leoni very angry and asked ‘who is this Rajapakse?’ He got the confirmation that it is the President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapakse. He immediately told the organiser ‘you people do not have any conscience or concern at all’ and walked away from the place with much disappointment.

Disgusted Leoni told the Nakkeeran ‘How can they allow such people to fund annathanam in the temple?’.

The reader of Nakeeran magazine who passed the news to the Sri Lanka Guardian asked ‘what the hell President Rajapakse is doing when people in Sri Lanka are struggling to cope with the skyrocketing cost of living and many of them living below poverty line’. He further said ‘The President is crazy. Why can’t he give annathanams to poor people in Sri Lanka. He is providing Annathanam’s whilst demolishing Hindu temples in the north and east of the Island’.
